“BGR you are the world’s biggest misogynist!”
“You just want to control women and make them the slaves of men”
“Anyone who thinks women should have less rights than men is a misogynist!”
I receive these types of comments on a daily basis.
Let me tell you something in all honesty and sincerity and I know I speak for many of my Bible believing Christian friends. If God had stated in the Scriptures that men and women were to be social equals and equal partners in marriage that is what I would strive for. But it is not about what I want or you want – it is about what God says he wants in his Word.
Christians like myself and others who love the Word of God and who strive to practice the patriarchal form of marriage which models the relationship of Christ and his Church do not do so because of our hatred for women. We do so because of our love for God.
“For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” – I John 5:3 (KJV)
I have made these statements before and I will make them again here.
I do NOT hate women but rather I hate feminism and I hate the horrible effects that the women’s rights movement has had on marriage and the family in our culture.
Are there some men who genuinely hate women because of bad life experiences they have had? Absolutely. I have had to delete their comments many times on this blog.
“You don’t believe women are human because you believe they should not have equal rights!”
This is another false accusation hurled at me and other Christians who embrace the Biblical patriarchal form of marriage. This is because our American and Western culture teaches us that all human beings (adult human beings that are not incarcerated) should have equal rights. If one set of human beings has any less rights than another it said the human beings with less rights are being treated as “less than human”.
But this thinking does not line up with the Scriptures. The Bible shows God commanding that women have less rights than men:
“2 If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.
3 If a woman also vow a vow unto the Lord, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth;
4 And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her; then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.
5 But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the Lord shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.
6 And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;
7 And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.
8 But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the Lord shall forgive her.” – Numbers 30:1-8 (KJV)
“1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives…
5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” – I Peter 3:1 & 5-7 (KJV)
The Bible clearly shows us that a daughter is under the authority of her father and a wife is under the authority of her husband. Women do not have equal social rights to men under God’s design, but at the same time God calls men to honor their mothers and wives. The Bible shows us that there is no contradiction between the facts that women are human beings (and to be treated as such) and yet they are to have different social rights than men in God’s order.
I realize that you may not agree with what the Bible says on this. Perhaps you may think I am misapplying what the Bible says on these matters concerning gender roles. But I hope you will at least leave here knowing that I and other Christians who subscribe to the Biblical patriarchal form of marriage do not hate women – but instead we honor them in their roles as wives and mothers.
