It is no coincidence that socialists in American have been and continue to assault the institution of marriage. It should not surprise us that most people who support government take overs of business and health care also support gay marriage and oppose traditional marriage, including traditional gender roles.
The destruction of traditional marriage is a very old tenant in the Socialist handbook, just as organized religion is. Socialists want people to have their ultimate allegiance to the state. Loyalty to family, or to God threatens ultimate loyalty to the State. That is why Socialist states find every way they can to marginalize religion, and they encourage “free love” because they know free love ultimately builds dependency upon the state.
Socialists are succeeding in America with their goals. Both church attendance and marriage rates are down. Cohabitation rates are way up.
President Obama has led the Socialist charge since he became President in 2009. He or his justice department have tried to interfere in church hiring practices and he has tried to force Christian businesses and church organizations to pay for abortion coverage.
President Obama’s minions at every level of Government are trying to force gay marriage down the throats of Bible believing Christians. Christians are in fear of losing their businesses or being dragged into court if they refuse to participate in a gay wedding.
Our Socialist President loves creating more and more dependency, he gives out “free” cell phones and has massively expanded food stamp programs which discourage people from finding work.
But it all goes back to an assault on the family, and on traditional marriage, if we continue to lose our fight for traditional marriage and the traditional family unit, our nation will soon crumble.
I pray that all my Christian friends, and even those non-Christians who understand the importance of the traditional family unit, will stand together against this Socialist assault. We need to find candidates that will not be afraid of the word SOCIALIST – that is what President Obama is, that is what Harry Reid is. That is what many democrats are. We need to call it what it is!
We also need Christians and churches to get out of bed with the Socialists! So many Christians think that socialism is a good think because it supposedly helps the poor so they get in bed with the very people who are assaulting the family, God and religious freedom. Christians wake up!!!
Here is what Romans 13 says about submission to government. I don’t see any exception for not being subject to Socialist leaders, and the politicians in Paul’s day were just as wicked as they are now.
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.
Derek,
Did I say some place that we as Christians need to overthrow the US government? I completely recognize and respect the office of President of the United States, which is currently occupied by President Obama. However, we do have the right to speak to truth to error, that is not a matter of not being in submission to our government. We actually do have an exception for obeying various government edicts, if they violate God’s Word:
“We ought to obey God rather than men.” Acts 5:29
Many Old Testament Prophets spoke out against the evils of their current kings, and John the Baptist spoke out against his current king, king Herod.
So for instance, I completely agree with Christian cake bakers who have defied Government discrimination laws that tell them they must baked cakes for gay weddings, or if a Christian wedding planner would not work with gay couple, or if a Christian adoption agency would not adopt to gay couples. I also agree with Pastors who defy laws that say they cannot give their congregations Christian principles for voting, or mention parties or candidates. We must always speak God’s truth in all spheres of life.
There are numerous cases of civil disobedience in the Bible (which the Christian bakers have done), but there are no examples of New Testament Christians engaging in activism to reform government or society to conform to biblical principles. The example of John the Baptist is unique in that King Herod identified as a Jew, but the circumstances of his marriage made it unlawful under the Mosaic law. We have numerous elected officials who have divorced and remarried without scriptural grounds, but there are scarcely any Christian leaders who would publicly declare those politician’s marriages to be invalid.
Furthermore, there are no laws that prevent pastors from making political statements; they simply cannot do so without losing their tax-exempt status. This demonstrates that the pastors of mainstream Christianity love money and power more than they trust God for provision, and they are therefore unqualified to be pastors, nor do they have any credibility to be speaking out on moral issues of the day.
Derek,
The lack of an example of Christians involved in political activism, does not forbid Christians from political activism any more than the lack of an example of Christian Churches using instruments in their services precludes us from that in our churches. I use that as an example, because I have a Christian friend of mine who attends a church that does not use musical instruments in their worship because they have no New Testament Church examples of it.
An Biblical example(if mentioned in a positive light), allows us to do something, but it does not compel us that we have to do that thing. The lack of an example of a certain behavior, does not stop us from doing that thing. The only thing that stops us from doing things are direct Biblical commands. Romans 13 tells me I have to obey the laws of the United States, and yes respect the office of King,President, or Governor, Mayor…ect. It does not stop me from speaking out against bad or unbiblical polices these leaders may have.
As far as Pastors go, I agree they ought to speak out regardless of financial impact, and many are. But there should be NO FINANCIAL impact for them doing so, and that is the immorality of our current laws. That law was specifically pushed through by Johnson because he did not like the way some churches throughout the country had problems with him. Up until that point, Churches in America were very much involved in politics, because after all, at the heart of politics lay morality. Our source for all moral decisions should be our faith, therefore Christians and Churches should be much more politically involved then they are.
